We can set our sights high - Adkins

Friday, February 05, 2010, 06:30

SCUNTHORPE United manager Nigel Adkins insists he is setting no points target in the club's battle for Championship survival.

But if they can average a point from each of their remaining 19 games, that will give them a total of 52 – and should be enough to keep them out of the bottom three.

The Iron though, are setting their sights much higher after a successful run of form which has seen them beaten just twice in the last 10 league games – and left them currently nine points better off than they were at this stage two seasons ago, when they were relegated.

Tomorrow they start a run of seven successive home games against teams in the bottom half of the table that could decide their destiny.

But Adkins warns they face a tough test against a Crystal Palace side that has suddenly found itself thrust into the middle of the relegation dogfight.

"They will be smarting from that 4-0 defeat at home to us earlier in the season," he declared.

"That was a result which galvanised them and they went on a good run after that.

"They have recently gone into administration and that has brought a good group of players even closer together."
