Briscoe brace brushed aside by Burton

Thursday, February 04, 2010, 06:30

JUST seven matches survived the bitter frost in The Fallen Hero Scunthorpe Sunday Football League.

Two games went ahead in division one, both involving teams in the bottom half of the table.

HTE Burton pushed themselves up into mid-table with a 3-2 win against bottom-of-the-table Bottesford Town.

David Brown, Ben Slocombe and Jason Stephenson scored the goals to rule out a brace from Stuart Briscoe for Bottesford.

Goals from Daniel Baraclough and Ricky Girling were enough to secure White Hart a 2-1 win against Brigg Servicemen.

Daniel Greaves scored the consolation for Brigg but the defeat leaves them five points adrift of third-bottom Auld South Yorks.

Beacon continued their 100 per cent record in division three with a 6-0 win at lowly Crowle Keys.

Stuart Longbone was the star of the show with a hat-trick for Beacon, while Dean Broughton weighed in with two and Drew Henderson finished off the rout.

Struggling division four sides CMB and Duffs Dynamoes drew the only game in the division 1-1.

Desert Rat moved to within two points of top spot in division seven with a narrow 3-2 win against Atletismo.

Yaddlethorpe stay fourth after thrashing Class Six 7-1.

The only cup game played was between Barton Broncos and Ashby Star in round three of the Bob Bedford Cup.

Barton came out on top with a 3-1 win and will face either Lincoln Castle or Winteringham Reserves in the next round.
