We are still in the title driving seat - Foster

Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 06:30

GREENS' captain Tom Foster thinks the dramatic point snatched against Syston keeps his side in the driving seat for automatic promotion.

It was his late try which secured the point for Scunthorpe in the top-of-the-table clash at Heslam Park.

A great burst of determined running saw Foster dive on the ball to touch down after Chris Neal had chipped through.

And the Scunthorpe skipper was delighted with how his side dug deep to bounce back from 20-3 down to draw 32-all.

"It's very difficult to give a good side like Syston 20 points and expect to get anything out of the game," he confessed. "So we were delighted to finish with the point.

"I think we were so hyped up before the game, we were so focused on the game, that we maybe didn't control our emotions.

"And I think that affected how we played.

"Being 20 points down made us realise that we had to dig deep and the second half performance was really good.

"In previous seasons we probably wouldn't have come back from that.

"This game meant everything to them as well because they knew they had to win to stand any chance of getting automatic promotion.

"So we are still in the driving seat, we've still got the three-point cushion."

With Derby leapfrogging Syston into second place thanks to a 22-15 win at Paviors, the Greens now face another top-of-the-table clash at Derby next week.

A clash which Foster can't wait to get stuck into.

"If we can go to Derby and win next week then that would really set us up well," the 28-year-old added.

"It's going to be a very good game at Derby, they're a very good team and they are still hoping to push us for automatic promotion.

"It will obviously be a tough one but it's a game we are really looking forward to and really want to win."
