Real test of will for Iron at West Brom – Crosby

Tuesday, February 09, 2010, 06:30

SCUNTHORPE United's improved away form will be put to the test at promotion-chasing West Brom tonight.

The Iron have lost only once on their travels in the last five games – including back to back victories at Derby and QPR.

But they return tonight to the scene that proved their biggest nightmare in the Championship two years ago when they crashed 5-0 at The Hawthorns.

"That was a long 90 minutes," confessed assistant manager Andy Crosby who was in the centre of the defence that afternoon alongside Ian Baraclough.

He knows that most people will expect United to lose there again tonight against the Baggies who are seemingly on course for a quick return to the Premier League.

He though is sure they have the confidence, character and quality in the present squad to erase the memory of that thrashing – and bounce back from their 2-1 slip-up last Saturday at home to Crystal Palace.

"It is a great opportunity for us to bounce back from the disappointment against Palace – and the manner in which it happened with a last minute goal," he declared.

"When you concede a late goal like that, it can get to you mentally.

"But we have enough character in our dressing room to bounce back and a game tonight gives us a perfect opportunity to do that straight away.

"It's a good game for us too because it's one where no-one really expects us to get anything from – apart from ourselves.

"It's a chance to go down there and try and play our own game."
