Rossington Main 3 App-Frod 2

AFTER opening the scoring, App-Frod, short of key players, fell 3-2 at Rossington Main.

The Steelmen had the first chance of the game from a free-kick.

Lee Beacroft swung the ball to the far post, where Nathan Holtby controlled before striking a volley which was superbly saved by Lee Appleby.

Frod opened the scoring in the 24th minute from a David Bocock corner as Simon Welton got the final touch to poke the ball into the net.

Rossington equalised 10 minutes later from a long ball. There appeared to be no danger when Nathan Holtby controlled, but he was caught in possession and Andy Culshaw cut inside before finding the bottom corner.

Rossington started well in the second half and could have taken the lead.

A cross from the left fell to the unmarked Johnathan Mirfin who beat keeper Rob Zand, but James Atkinson made an excellent goal-line clearance.

On the hour, Culshaw scored again for the hosts, latching on to a cross and firing from a very acute angle.

Ten minutes from time Frod levelled through Atkinson as he powerfully headed home a free-kick.

Two minutes later Rossington got the winner when the unmarked Jake Vernon headed home.

Frod though, can take some positives from their display.

Their final home game of the season is against Askern Villa on Saturday.
