Quorn 1 Brigg Town 2

BRIGG'S recent good run of form continued with a 2-1 success against an improving Quorn team.

The hosts used long throws from Ash Robinson into the penalty area to put the Brigg defenders under pressure in the early stages, but were unable to test keeper Andy Pettinger.

Brigg came more into the game after 20 minutes as Tom Spall advanced down the right wing and forced a corner.

Robbie Clarke made a strong forward run before passing the ball on to Paul Grimes, who sliced his shot wide of the upright.

On the stroke of half-time Brigg were unlucky not to take the lead when Andy Holt worked his way past his marker on the left and sent a looping shot against the bar. The ball fell to Spall six yards out, but because of the high bounce he lifted his effort back over the bar.

Brigg had far more possession as the game progressed and looked more dangerous when attacking.

Holt kept the home defenders busy and worked his way past Asa Ingall before sending the ball into the goal area, but keeper Matt Nurse dived to make a low save.

However, the continuation of attacks eventually brought the first goal in the 74th minute when Holt was fouled outside the area.

Clarke curled a lovely free-kick into the corner of the net from 20 yards out.

Eight minutes later, Quorn won a corner and Pettinger had to stretch to save at his far post.

Brigg looked well capable of increasing their lead but had to wait until two minutes from the end of normal time.

It came as a result of another good run by Spall before he crossed to the near post for Clarke to fire it into the corner of the net.

Two minutes into time added on, Quorn scored a consolation from a corner when Robinson was left with a free header.

Tomorrow evening Brigg travel to play at Spalding United and then have a home fixture next Saturday against Grantham Town.
